PROJECT DETAILS

OVERVIEW:

New build regeneration project of 2,500 new homes on behalf of Metropolitan Thames Valley with a dedicated District Heating System.

Acting as Contractor to the ESCo company we have installed, tested, and commissioned 2.3km of dual Kingspan LOGSTOR series 2 district heating pipework in 1.1km of trench including associated works such as leak detection system, pre commissioning ice pigging, communication duct system and valve access chambers, delivered in various phases. The works were mostly constructed in the public highway at depths between 1.8m to 3.5m.

CLIENT:

Pinnacle Power

VALUE:

Phase 2: £1m
Phase 3: £1.3m
Phase D01: £1.5m

PROGRAMME:

March 2018 to July 2021

CHALLENGES & SOLUTIONS

Working around sensitive services. For instance, the design consisted of the removal, over pumping and replacement of a 900mm diameter concrete foul drain crossing the line of pipework which we undertook by threading the DH pipe carefully under the foul drain, resulting in a significant value engineering saving for the Employer and de-risks this part of the project.

In order to meet the challenging Employer heat on dates in phase 2, we accelerated the works by increasing our resources, working in multiple areas and planning the works in such a way as to avoid disruption to local residents and businesses. This required careful engineering and planning due to the extremely low tolerances involved in joining pipes laid in separate sections.

As part of our project scope we liaised with local residents and stakeholders, keeping them informed of the works as they progressed as well as undertaking enabling works such as temporary car parking bays, temporary bin locations and installing new residential drainage connections.

Working in UXO listed area under UXO specialist supervision and implementing suitable methodology.

Following TPO requirements and using protection measures around tree roots while excavating.
